Tariff Modes (Discussion)
Warning: Switching between different tariff types may result in loss of data. See the note below regarding this(!).
Note: If you get a message "Error, no global room types created yet. Note that this feature is only available if you have global room types set to Yes in the backend Site Configuration panel, and you must create at least one global room type." you will have to go into your Paxsoft backend and edit your global room types. Create a new room type (eg Villa) and edit it to become a global room type.
Paxsoft 2.7 introduces new functionality to simpify tariff/room editing and is referred to as Normal mode. This setting does not change how Paxsoft works, but adds a simplified wrapper around the standard Rooms -> Rooms Types -> Tariffs relationships. If you are used to the "old" style of tariff configuration, or want more control over your pricing structure you'll need to go to Tariffs and Currencies Tab in the General Configuration section and change the Tariff mode from "Normal" to "Advanced". This version also sees the Enhanced Template minicomponent modified to work in the Core of Paxsoft so you now have 3 different methods of tariff editing available to you.
The different tariff modes allow you to choose the method of configuring tariffs that suits you best.
Normal mode is the most simplistic but it's the easiest to understand because it will cross reference rooms and tariffs to room/property types and allows you to configure rooms and prices on the same page.
Micro manage allows you to vary the rates on a day to day basis without having to manage reams of tariffs, it is done by cross referencing lots of different tariffs with each other. This results in a number of tariffs being created for you covering a period of time. You can layer different tariffs over each other.
Advanced mode lets you create a room and associate it with a room type. You then create a tariff and associate that with a room type. Using this method it is possible to "layer" tariffs over each other, for example a room type "Double bed" can have one tariff for bed and breakfast, and another for bed, breakfast and evening meal. The advanced method requires a little more attention to detail because it is possible to dis-associate a room or tariff from a room/property type, or to incorrectly set valid from and to dates, but it does give you configuration options that the other modes do not offer.

The Normal tariff mode is now the default setting in Paxsoft. It makes initial configuration of tariffs simpler compared to the Advanced method and new Paxsoft users should find that it is much easier to get up and running as it configures many options for you. The drawback of this mode is that each room type can only have one tariff, but many users may find that this is sufficient. Note that in Normal mode you can only have one tariff for each room type (including for SRPs), and that tariff is set to be valid for the next 10 years. If you need more control over tariffs then you can switch to Advanced mode. All the documentation in this manual refers to setting tariffs in Advanced mode. If you switch from Advanced Mode to Normal mode then all of your previous tariffs will be removed when you click Save (except for SRPs, where all rooms and tariffs are removed when you go to Property Admin) and you'll be returned to having only one tariff for each room type.
Room type Number of rooms available Rate per night Max people per room Max people in booking
Each of these options should be self-explanatory.
(!) Because Normal and Micromanage modes require a specific set up of rooms and tariffs for the tariff mode to work the system may need to reset some data when you switch modes to make the current tariff configurations compatible with the current tariff editing mode.
